Before the 1980s, most food and beverage (F&B) businesses owned their real estate outright. Renting was rare, and owning their real estate allowed them to be profitable and making a living.
Then came along the Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). These scam artists used borrowed money to acquire large amounts of commercial property, which they then leased back to F&B operators. As a result, many F&B businesses became burdened with high rents, eroding their profit margins and pushing many to the brink of insolvency.
This model exists today and many restaurant operators struggle to survive and because they don’t understand the world around us, when they fail they can’t understand why they failed.
Bitcoin is going to change this. It will destroy the REITs and we will go back to the days when real estate will be cheap and restaurant owners will buy the building and live on site with their family allowing them to make a living.
It’s going to take time for Bitcoin to change this. Until then many normies will invest lots of borrowed money into a restaurant thinking they will be able to succeed.
