However, the truth is that YouTube has always been more of a propaganda machine than a genuine opportunity for most. Only a small percentage of channels can manage to build a career on the platform, and many of these creators are actually hired by YouTube or other organizations to push specific agendas or narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you’re an ordinary person, not part of this inner circle, the odds are stacked against you. Making a career out of YouTube is extremely difficult, and if you manage to gain a large following, but start discussing topics that challenge the dominant narrative especially politics, you\u2019re likely to face censorship. YouTube doesn\u2019t tolerate channels that contradict the approved narrative. If you don\u2019t play by their rules, you\u2019ll be shut down. The platform doesn\u2019t even need to rely on independent creators anymore\u2014they have their own stable of content creators pushing the agenda they want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the past, it was easier to make money from a YouTube channel. But fast forward to 2024, YouTube has completely overhauled its monetization system, making it much harder for creators to earn a living. Despite this, the propaganda continues to spread, misleading creators into thinking YouTube is still a viable platform to build a career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The notion that you can build a sustainable career from YouTube has always been a myth, and it remains so today. This same kind of deception can be seen on platforms like X, where the narrative persists that people can make a “living” from the platform. It’s all part of the same broader effort to make us believe that we can rely on entertainment-driven platforms as a primary source of income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reality is that YouTube and similar platforms are primarily focused on propaganda, entertainment, not productivity or necessity. It\u2019s not like food, shelter, or clothing\u2014basic needs that drive a career. As a result, building a career on YouTube is inherently difficult and unsustainable for most creators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But can Nostr change this? I believe so. Instead of a few creators claiming the millions of dollars that YouTube often touts, we\u2019re likely to see a greater spread of earnings across many smaller creators.
