During the summer, they dont use air conditioning because they're trying to save money. The reason is simple: they can't afford normal heating and cooling costs on top of everything else.\n\nNow their mortgage is up for renewal, and they can't afford the new payments. To make matters worse, the value of the house has fallen. They're worried and don't know what to do. I fear they're heading toward bankruptcy, but there's not much I can say. Sometimes people have to experience the consequences themselves before they understand.\n\nI think this situation has become common in Canada. For years, young men and women were told that buying a house as soon as possible was the only path to financial success. They were told that housing always goes up, that renting is \"throwing money away,\" and many even went ahead and bought a second property so they could, as people like to say, \"let someone else pay my mortgage.\"\n\nI don't think many people ever sat down and did the math. If they had, they might have realized that homeownership isn't automatically a good investment. Depending on the numbers, renting can sometimes leave you in a much stronger financial position. Yet many people never compare the true costs of ownership, mortgage interest, property taxes, insurance, maintenance, utilities, and repairs.\n\nThe so-called \"good times\" weren't even that good. Owning a large home while keeping the thermostat just above the point where your pipes might freeze because you can't afford the heating bill isn't financial freedom. It's financial stress.\n\nIt's sad to watch, and I believe many people are going to learn the hard way that rising house prices don't guarantee financial security.\n\nThe banking institutions and the government have clearly brainwashed everyone into participating into the housing ponzi scheme which is now coming down, What's worse is will affect millions of people who have no choice but to buy a home because they have a big family. Very sad and angry at the criminal banking institutions. They once again are ruining many people's lives.","sig":"842d0edff85eef0320f45d9485989d7d1ed8a20ff4c445bf97ea00e71711f720fcd13e388374a4d226d7a480683d0c0c32e9f15e3f613449aaacb1a3516aadd8"}],"count":1,"total_count":1}
