Make money streaming on Zap.Stream

I recently tried the zap.steam website for the first time, after following it for several months. It’s similar to Twitch, but with a unique twist—it uses the Nostr-based Bitcoin tipping system. This means viewers can directly tip streamers, and the tips go straight to the streamer’s Bitcoin Lightning address. Best of all, the streamer keeps 100% of the tips.

So, how does the website make money if it doesn’t take a cut of the tips?
The answer is simple: the streamer pays. Streamers are charged based on the amount of time they stream.

What’s the cost?
Currently, it’s 5 Satoshis per minute. At today’s exchange rate, 1 Satoshi equals about 0.00097 USD.

For example, I streamed for 1 hour, which cost me 300 Satoshis, or approximately 0.29 USD.

Very cheap! I also heard you can lower the amount if you lower the quality of the steam. I’m still playing around with the site so don’t quote me on everything.

I really like this model because it allows the website to generate revenue based on the actual time the streamer is active. On platforms like Twitch, I often see streamers running re-runs or streaming endlessly, which costs the platform a lot of money, but they don’t make any revenue from it.

What makes zap.steam even better is that you can start earning right away—no special requirements like rumble’s newly creator program which is a fail in my opinion because they have too many requirements so you can’t start making money right away.

Since the website is still fairly new, there aren’t many streamers on it yet, and some streamers and viewers are still figuring out how to use Bitcoin. But I believe this model is the future.

Some streamers might argue that it’s unfair or “dumb” to pay per minute of streaming, but I think we should support the platform if we believe in it. It’s important for the website owner to make money in order to continue improving it.

I always say that the future of the internet & Bitcoin is “No Freeloaders”

Also, keep in mind that zap.steam isn’t run by a corporation—it’s run by an individual or people. Personally, I’d rather support an individual or group of people than a large corporation.

I plan to stream more on zap.steam because I support the platform and want to see it succeed.

Whoever built is. Thanks!
