Let’s modernize the US National Anthem

The U.S. national anthem needs to be updated. It doesn’t make much sense anymore.

How many Americans actually understand what the lyrics even mean. I’d guess not many.

ChatGPT agrees that national anthems should be modernized using today’s English. The current anthem is over 200 years old. Words like:

“ramparts,” “perilous,” and “gallantly”

just don’t resonate anymore. And let’s not forget the anthem was written on the spot, not as some flawless masterpiece.

When I asked ChatGPT to rewrite it using modern English, the results were surprisingly good. It was clearer, more meaningful, and easier to connect with.

Then we went further.

We agreed to not just modernize the old anthem but instead write a completely new one, one that tells the full story of the United States, from 1776 to now. The current anthem was written in 1814 and wasn’t even adopted as the official anthem until 1931, more than 100 years later.

ChatGPT is an incredible tool for learning and brainstorming. In the hands of the people, we can rethink even the most sacred symbols.
