I successfully installed my own Nostr relay with the help of ChatGPT. However, I quickly realized there’s no straightforward way to moderate spam since there’s no GUI. All moderation tasks have to be handled via the terminal using SQL commands.
I suspect this is why many relay administrators set up a relay, leave it running, and don’t actively moderate it. This explains the abundance of spam on free public relays.
I’ve decided not to keep my relay open to the public for free because:
1. I don’t believe in free services.
2. I’m not getting paid for managing my relay.
3. My time is valuable.
4. Moderation is too cumbersome.
