I think this is a smart business move, especially as more people gradually migrate to Nostr. Most users aren’t interested in managing their own relay or media hosting, which makes Primal’s offering particularly valuable. I believe it has the potential to become quite popular.
The subscription model also provides a sustainable way for Primal to generate revenue and continue developing new features.
Since my primary phone doesn’t have Google services, I couldn’t view the price initially. I installed the app on a different phone, and as shown in the screenshot, the subscription costs about $6.88 USD per month.
It seems that payment via Bitcoin Lightning is not currently supported, which is a bit surprising given the Nostr community’s affinity for Bitcoin.
I’d love to see other projects take a similar approach to foster healthy competition within the Nostr ecosystem.
