In Canada some businesses that the government has deemed “not essential “are forced to stay closed the 25th because the government has mandated the whole country to celebrate a holiday called Christmas. Although in the past they seem to have tried changing the name of the holiday from Christmas to “Holiday” but that doesn’t change the fact that it is a mandated holiday.
There is plenty of Canadians who do not celebrate Christmas on the 25th for many personal reasons and do not celebrate many other mandated holidays that the government pushes throughout the year.
Some examples depending on local laws that are forced to close on the 25th:
Clothing stores.
Electronics stores.
Furniture retailers.
Recreational Facilities
I traveled overseas before and a local business owner told me that Christmas time and Christmas Day was the best time to make money because people went out with their families, to shop, eat around Christmas and even on Christmas day. He was shocked that in Canada business were forced to stay closed.
Separation of government and holidays is the future.
