The idea is to integrate Bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network into email service provider servers to email service provider servers. This would require users to pay a small fee—denominated in satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin)—to send and/or receive emails.
Here’s how it could work:
Cost Per Email:
Users would pay a nominal fee of 2 satoshis per email sent (equivalent to approximately $ 0.00292 USD at current exchange rates).
The fee would be distributed equally between the Mailu administrator (1 satoshi) and the recipient of the email (1 satoshi).
Customizable Pricing:
Administrators could set the price per email according to their preferences, fostering competition among Mailu service providers while accommodating different use cases.
Benefits:
Spam Prevention:
Introducing a small monetary cost per email discourages mass spamming, as sending bulk unsolicited emails would become prohibitively expensive.
Incentives for Participation:
Recipients would earn satoshis for emails they receive, creating a novel incentive for using the service.
Administrator Revenue:
Email server administrators could generate revenue, further incentivizing adoption and maintenance of the platform.
